Below is a message from Zemcar’s CEO Juliette Kayyem on the 5th Anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing.
Five years ago today, the Boston Marathon bombing shocked our city and our nation. As a former state homeland security advisor and as a mother of three kids who heard the blast, this event stuck with me. The city’s reaction and resilience to this tragic event were the bookends to my memoir Security Mom because it was then that I realized the attributes of a safe community were the attributes of safe kids. We want our kids, as we want our communities, to be equally safe, secure, free, and curious.
As we honor those we lost and those who served on that tragic day, let’s do so by celebrating the freedom, resiliency, and curiosity we revere in our storied Patriots’ Day traditions.
